Actress Vijayshanthi had the tag of `lady superstar' in south and that was long ago. After that most of K'town's glamourous heroines prefer to run around trees and also seem content with romantic roles. Now we hear that British model/actress, who made an impressive debut with Madarasapattinam, has donned the role of an action-heroine director Vijay's flick Thaandavam. The movie fea tures Vikram in the lead with Anushka playing opposite him.

Sources tell us that Thaandavam, a modern day commercial entertainer, will project Amy in a different light. The actress is perform ing few daredevil stunts. “I am delighted to work once again with Vijay, the one who brought me to Indian films. My role is unusual, which I am sure to enjoy. I will prove my talent in the action genre as well in Thaandavam,“ the actress reportedly said. The film said. The film also features Tollywood a c t o r Jagapathy Babu in a prominen role.

Irked that the actor’s name has been dragged into the title issue, Karikalan’s producers plan to file a defamation suit

A civil court in the city had ordered an interim stay on Karikalan’s filming after K S Rajasekaran, aka, Nagaraj sent a notice to the team alleging that the film’s story and title were his. The court had also issued summons to its makers and hero Vikram. But, now, the producers of the film are planning to file a defamation suit against Rajasekaran for involving Vikram’s name in this issue.

When CT got in touch with S S Vasan, one of the film’s producers, he said that it is grossly unfair to drag Vikram’s name in this issue. “It is understandable when the producer and the director are issued summons in such a case. But, involving an actor in such a case is unfair. He is not part of both the script and title registration process,” he says. He reveals that Vikram had spoken to him about the issue, and feels that this has caused mental agony for his hero. “It brings down his reputation and we are consulting our lawyers about filing a defamation suit,” he claims.

Stating that they have adequate proof to argue their case, he says, “We have the documents declaring approval of the title from the producers’ council, the producers’ guild and the film chamber. They have a monthlong verification process during which they crosscheck whether the title applied for has already been registered or if there is any litigation over it.” The producer says the next schedule of shooting will probably begin by next month once the legal issues and the FEFSI wage issues are sorted out

Agra´s Taj Mahal Hosts Chiyaan Vikram´s ´Thandavam´!

Apart from Tom Cruise and Oprah Winfrey, it was Tamil superstar Chiyaan 'Ravan' Vikram who was at the historic Taj City of Agra recently.

The reason? Well, the overwhelming charm of the monument of love, The Taj Mahal, pulled the actor to the city of love, Agra.

More famous in these parts at 'Aparichit' and 'Raavan', Vikram Kennedy was in town to shoot for his latest Tamil film, 'Thandavam'.

For those who are not aware Vikram has won five Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award part from a Tamil Nadu State Film Award.

During an interaction with the fourth estate Vikram talked about the Hindi cinema and of course the very famous 'Kolaveri Di'

Amy Jackson to play an action girl in Vikram's Thaandavam

It is no longer news that the 'Madrasapattinam' girl Amy Jackson will play second female lead in her mentor AL Vijay's forthcoming, 'Thaandavam'. Grapevine now has it that Amy will introduce her action avatar to audience through this film and perform some stunts!

The actress was quoted while speaking to a media house, "It's a complete different venture and I will get to show off my action skills in this movie. Vijay gave me my first break and it's so good to work with him again".

'Thaandavam' is reportedly a bilingual to be canned simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu and Amy will start shooting her portions come March. Anushka will be seen as Vikram's lady love and Jagapathi Babu will be seen as an antagonist in this action packed thriller.

Who can forget Chiyaan Vikram's role in Anniyan in which he played a character suffering from multiple personality disorder? The psychological thriller, which was the brainchild of maverick filmmaker Shankar, was critically acclaimed and its Tollywood version Aparichithudu cre ated a new market for Chiyaan's films in Andhra. According to confirmed trade sources, the super hit combo of Shankar and Vikram are coming together for a new movie that will go on floors some time in September. Sources say that Shankar, who is happy with the tremen dous response his recent flick Nanban has garnered, will start working on the new project after taking a small break.

Meanwhile, the shooting for Vikram's movie Thaandavam with director Vijay is in full swing in Delhi where some of the high stunts are being canned.

National Award winning director Pandiraj is gearing up for the release of his next venture Marina. As the title suggests, the film captures the lives of the people who dwell on Marina beach and has Sivakarthikeyan and Oviya playing the lead roles.

The filmmaker has come out with a promo music video titled Vanakkam Vazhavaikkum Chennai for the film and has roped in some of the top stars and directors of tinsel town to feature in it. Vikram, Prakash Raj, Sneha, Vimal, Ameer and Sasikumar appear in the song and have sung a few lines.

Speaking about the promo song, Pandiraj said, “The entire film is a tribute to Chennai -to Marina beach in particular. The song, which talks about life in Chennai, will explore the day long activities in the city -from dawn to dusk. Na. Muthukumar has come out with some inspiring lines. Since it is a promo song, I wanted popular faces.“ He expressed his gratitude to all the celebrities who have appeared in the song.

Isha Sharvani in Vikram’s next!

Isha Sharvani, who is currently in the news for her dance number in Maatran, is doing another film with a Kollywood connect! Well, she’s been signed on for Vikram’s upcoming Bollywood project that is directed by Bejoy Nambiar of Shaitan fame. Interestingly, the Kisna actress will also be seen in Kamal Haasan’s Viswaroopam.

When we contacted Bejoy, he said, “Yes, Isha has been signed on to do a role in the film, which will go on floors at the end of the month.” With Isha and actress Tabu playing roles, will the film shape up as a triangular love story? “Well, it’s too early to comment on that,” he added, “I wouldn’t want people to speculate about the project as an official announcement will be made in the near future.”

Chiyaan Vikram Special Appearance in 'Marina'

Chiyaan Vikram, Sneha, Prakash Raj, Vimal, Ameer, Sasikumar and many other popular faces will be seen in Pandiraj's forthcoming film 'Marina', which is loaded with surprises. "They will appear in a song sequence," the director says.

"There is a particular number in this film, which talks about life in Chennai. The song Vanakkam vaazhavaikkum Chennai...' has been penned by Na Muthukumar. It will feature the above stars. My sincere thanks to them," Pandiraj says.

"The entire film is a tribute to Chennai in general and Marina beach in particular," Pandiraj says and adds: "The song will explore day long activities in Chennai, from dawn to dusk. It will be aired soon all over to promote the movie."

Meanwhile, the cast and crew of 'Marina' are gearing up for the audio launch of the film later today, which will take place on the sands of Marina. They will also involve themselves in a clean up drive along the second longest beach.

The actress will play an important role in his next Bollywood film with Bejoy Nambiar

Tabu, who is known to be very selective about her roles in films, has been signed by Bejoy Nambiar for his next venture, David. This will be Bejoy’s second film after his successful directorial debut with Shaitaan. Interestingly, this film will star Vikram, who had previously told CT that he’d soon be teaming up with Bejoy. When contacted, Nambiar confirmed that Tabu will indeed play a pivotal role in his film. “She is so important in the film.

All I can say is that she plays a very quirky character,” he says. A source revealed that David is a gangster film, which goes on floors by the end of the month. Tabu remained unavailable for comment. The film will mark Vikram’s entry into Bollywood after Raavan, in which he played the cop’s role. The actor had mentioned that though several Bollywood offers had come his way post his outing in the Mani Ratnam film, he had stuck on to doing Tamil films. The star, whose last release was Suseenthiran’s Rajapattai, is currently busy with the shooting of Vijay’s Thandavam.

Bejoy Nambiar’s directorial debut Shaitan was a surprise hit. With the film, the director has become a filmmaker to reckon with. And perhaps that’s the reason why he was able to accomplish what most directors have not been successful at. Mumbai Mirror has learnt that the director has managed to sign Tabu, who is known to be very selective about her roles in films, for his next venture, David. A source close to Nambiar told us that the film also stars south star Vikram, who made his Bollywood debut in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan.

When contacted, Nambiar confirmed that Tabu will indeed play a pivotal role in his film. But when questioned about her role in the film, the director simply said, “Well, if I tell you what she plays, I would end up revealing the story of David. She is so important in the film. All I can say is that she plays a very quirky character.”

However, even though Nambiar has Tabu and Vikram on-board, his casting search is still on. The director is yet to find two male heroes for the film. “I have zeroed down on two other male leads, but I shall officially reveal them only later,” said Nambiar.

With regard to the script, Nambiar told us, “I have also signed Isha Sharvani who will be romantically paired with Vikram.” While the director refused to divulge any further details, a source close to the director revealed that David is gangster film, which goes on floors by the end of the month.

Director Vijay started the first schedule of his Thaandavam with Vikram, Anushka, Nasser and Jagapathi Babu in Delhi yesterday. The team will be shooting for the next 20 days in the capital city and then take off to the US.

Confirming the news, Vijay says, “We are shooting in front of Jama Masjid now. I believe this is after a long time that a Tamil film is being shot in the locality of the Masjid. This ancient mosque plays an important role in the film and we have taken the necessary permission to shoot here.” We hear a high-octane action and chase sequence between Vikram and Jagapathi Babu will be shot in the first few days. Meanwhile, G V Prakash has already composed the tunes for the film and even recorded a song recently.
