Actor and a Director R.Parthepan Said abt Doctrate for Vikram!
After veterans like Sathyaraj, Manorama, S.P.Balasubramaniam, Ilayaraja, quite a few younger stars are being awarded honorary doctorates these days.
Actor Vikram was the most recent to be chosen for an honorary doctorate,in fine arts by an Italian university in Milan. However, one wonders if the doctorates carry as much weight these days as earlier.
Actor Parthepan believes that an award, if given to almost everyone, can’t be taken seriously.“TamilNadu’s Kalaimamani award, which is given to many people, isn’t that important.And doctorates too these days are being frequently awarded and thus are losing their importance,” he says.He, however,adds that one has to be worthy to receive a doctorate.“Even I was chosen for a doctorate,but I turned it down as I hadn’t done anything great. But as far as Vikram goes, giving him the award would be an inspiration to many aspiring actors. He struggled for over 18 to 20 years and has reached this stage, so giving him a doctorate is an honour,” adds Parthepan
