For the past one week, Vikram has been working on his directorial venture. Yes, you read that right -the versatile actor is directing a song that will feature the positive spirit of Chennaiites during the floods. He has been shooting for the song in a city studio.

Vikram says, “The whole world looked at us when the floods devastated Chennai and they clapped in appreciation at the way we positively reacted to the situation. That spirit should be appreciated. I saw and read so many inspirational stories at the time of the floods. Many people voluntarily came out of their comfort zones and helped people to cope. I wanted to salute the volunteers through a creative art form. Creativity can be anything -one can write, sing, act or direct. I have a terrific team with me, and this song will be released on December 31, and the video later. We will also be including real footage of Chennai during those days in this music video.“

The Spirit of Chennai song has been written by Madhan Karky , Rokesh and Gana Bala, and it has been sung by over 20 singers. Karky says, “Chennai Enbadhu Ooralla, Endhan Urchaagam...The song goes like this. Vikram has been doing a tremendous job as a director. I visited the shooting spot and I was stunned to see Vikram's new avatar as a director.“ Adds the music director of the track, Girinandh Vidyashankar, “We have shown the world what Chennai is all about. We are doing this song acknowledging the volunteers and their work, it is a simple thank you message from us.“
