Vikram Flagged Off a Green Walk At Marina Beach Stills

Chiyaan Vikram and Worshipful Mayor Ma Subramanian jointly Flagged Off a Green Walk At Marina Beach to Simpson’s ground

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)- Tamil Nadu together with The Hindu, today observed the World Environment Day by organizing a “Green Walk” from Gandhi Statue at Marina Beach to Simpson’s ground. The Green walk was flagged off jointly by Worshipful Mayor Ma Subramanian, Corporation of Chennai and Dr Vikram, Film Actor.

The CII – Hindu Green Walk aimed at creating an opportunity to promote people’s participation in caring for the environment, provide a human face to environmental issues and to empower people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development.

The CII Green Walk was participated by over 900 volunteers from Chennai representing industry, students, NGOs and environmentalists. The participants took the Green Pledge to be committed to protect, preserve and improve the environment, to Conserve natural resources and use it efficiently, to Plant trees, promote lush green surroundings and work in harmony with nature, Comply with all statutory legislative regulatory and other environmental requirements, to Proper dispose of waste by separation to Recycle plastic, reuse paper, reduce consumption and to Educate the society. 2000 saplings were distributed at the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Anand Sundaresan, Chairman, Chennai Zone, said that campaigns like the CII Green Walk is a first step towards cultivating awareness amongst the public on environment conservation.

M Raj Gopalan, Chair, Task Force on Climate Change, & Environment (Pollution) CII Tamil Nadu, urged all stakeholders concerned to work together in creating awareness on environment conservation and also propagate the best practices for the benefit of all.

Prasanna R, Chapter Chair , CII’s Young Indians (Yi), Chennai Chapter said that the Yi has been working with Schools and Colleges in educating youth on environment conservation by organizing Awareness Sessions, Green Contests, Tree Plantations, etc.
